Congressional Art Competition

Representative Thaddeus McCotter is requesting students participate in the 2009 Congressional Art Competition.  This congressional program recognizes talented artistic students from across the country.

“It is a tremendous opportunity for students to display their creative talents, express themselves, and participate in the universality of art,” said McCotter.  “While there are awards, all participants and those viewing their artwork benefit from these creations.”

The Congressional Art Competition first began in 1982 to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have participated in this nationwide competition.

The first place winning entry from the 11th district will have their artwork displayed for one year in Washington D.C. along with winning entries in the Capitol Building Tunnel. Other pieces selected as Honorable Mentions will be hung in my Livonia and Milford district offices. The winning student will be invited to Washington D.C. for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

The competition is open to all high school students who reside, attend school or are enrolled in an art program in the 11th Congressional District. All art work must original, but need not be specifically commissioned for this competition. Submissions will be accepted for previous existing pieces of art.  Listed below are guidelines which further explain the competition, as well as entry forms to be completed by the students who submit entries.

All art work should be submitted to my Livonia and Milford districts offices.  Entries must be submitted by the close of business on April 9, 2009.

Guidelines and entry forms can be accessed through the links below, please distribute this information to interested students.

If you have any questions regarding the competition, please contact Lori O’Brady in my Livonia office at 734-632-0314.
