Washington, D.C. - According to the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth, the State of Michigan now claims its highest jobless rate since the recession began -- 15.3%. U.S. Rep. McCotter (R-MI), who chairs the Republican House Policy Committee, has issued the following statement:
“Nowhere are the effects of this continuing recession more apparent than in our Michigan, where we suffer a jobless rate of 15.3% -- a figure that does not even include discouraged job seekers or individuals forced to take part-time jobs.
“I defy anyone from Washington or Wall Street to visit our Michigan and with a straight face tell one of our nearly three-quarters of a million unemployed neighbors that this recession is over. We understand that this recession will not be over until people are working again. To get there, we need common sense solutions such as tax relief for working families and small businesses, as well as fiscal responsibility in Washington.”
