Washington, D.C. – Representative Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI), today released the following statement regarding the Obama administration’s announcement Chrysler has been forced to file for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy:
“Our entire community’s thoughts, hearts, hands and prayers go out to the Chrysler workers and retirees who now face more cruel uncertainty regarding their futures. Chrysler, the UAW and our entire community have toiled, sacrificed and suffered to comply with President Obama’s Auto Task Force’s demands and deadlines to avoid bankruptcy. These noble, Herculean efforts by workers, retirees and management have now been frustrated by hedge funds. The fate of Chrysler now rests in court proceedings of an unpredictable duration and ultimate determination.
“Unconscionably, too many in our country consider our auto workers and retirees are disposable people – statistics not souls. Unlike these calloused critics, our compassionate concern for the future of the Chrysler workers and retirees harmed by this outcome remains woven within our community’s moral fabric. Throughout pending days of continued distress and unfairness, we will remain devoted to our family members, friends and neighbors harmed by Chrysler’s forced bankruptcy; and, one day, we shall together rise again as America’s engine of prosperity and Arsenal of Democracy.”
