Small Business/Manufacturing Update

Congressman Thaddeus McCotter has been working hard in Washington to preserve and promote our community’s hard working families in the wake of the economic upheavals of amoral globalization. He believes America is best served by trading with developed democracies, not undemocratic regimes and failed governments.

As a member of the House Committees on Budget and Small Business, Congressman McCotter has focused his efforts on making tax cuts permanent to continue to grow our economy; providing affordable health care options for our small employers and enact medical liability reform so they can keep providing health care coverage for their employees. In the 109th Congress Congressman McCotter’s voted in support of legislation to:

  • Permanently eliminate the immoral, business-destroying Death Tax.

  • Allow small businesses to band together and purchase health insurance through national associations at group rates.

  • Reform our nation’s medical liability laws in order to help control the skyrocketing cost of health care and insurance premiums.

  • Extend the small business expensing limit; the 15 year depreciation period for restaurants and leasehold improvements; the Work Opportunity Tax Credit, the Welfare to Work tax credit, and the research and experimentation tax credit.

  • Extend the individual Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) relief.  More than 85 percent of the nation’s small businesses pay their taxes on an individual, not corporate, basis.

  • Continue funding for Trade Adjustment Assistance program and the Manufacturing Extension Partnership program.

  • Provide adequate, affordable, and reliable energy supplies by focusing on environmentally friendly development of energy resources here at home.

Congressman McCotter has also cosponsored legislation opposing the outsourcing of American jobs to foreign nations, and amnesty and “guest worker” programs for illegal immigrants.
