McCotter Secures $2.5 Million for Road Interchange
Improvements in Novi

Washington  - Representative Thaddeus G. McCotter (R-Livonia) today voted for  passage of the Consolidated Appropriations Act for FY 2004 which includes $2.5 million for the reconstruction of the Beck Road and Wixom Road interchanges just off route I-96 in the City of Novi, MI.  The funding was included in the original House Transportation and Treasury Appropriations bill which was incorporated into today’s spending bill.

“Our community has too long suffered this interchange’s conditions,” said McCotter.  “Now, these critical federal funds will ease the commutes of local residents and improve the flow of traffic to area businesses.”

McCotter coordinated with Novi officials as he worked to include the interchange reconstruction funds in this year’s transportation funding bill.

Both the Beck and Wixom Road interchanges have been listed by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) as dangerous intersections due to their odd configuration and heavy traffic loads.  The Novi/Northville/Wixom area has grown extensively over the past fifteen years and these federal funds will help the interchanges expand to safely meet the heavy demands placed on them each day.

The FY04 Transportation and Treasury bill provides more than $88.9 billion in total budgetary resources providing funding for highway spending, aviation, capital investments in transit, anti-drug efforts and a variety of other projects.  The conference report approved today is the final agreement between the House and Senate and awaits approval by the Senate.
