Washington - U.S. Representatives Thaddeus G. McCotter (MI-11) and Mike Rogers (MI-8) announced today the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded Waterford Township a $467,000 Community Development Block Grant for various community improvements.
“Bringing federal funds back home gives Waterford residents new resources to improve their quality of life and everyone’s—from seniors’ homes to children’s playgrounds,” said McCotter. “Residents must count on their federal taxes working for improvements in their own neighborhoods.”
“This federal-local partnership does enhance Waterford’s ability to meet the needs of all citizens,” Rogers agreed. “Congratulations to the community on successfully completing the application process.”
McCotter said Waterford Township will direct $104,000 for public improvements; including a roadway safety project. In addition, $117,400 will be used for a housing rehabilitation program providing interest-free deferred payment loans for home rehabilitation improvements.
Rogers added the remaining funds will be used for programs to benefit seniors and youth in the Waterford community. The Waterford Senior Chore Program, serving low-income senior citizens and disabled individuals with home repairs and maintenance, will receive a portion of the funding and a local youth program will receive funds to continue a summer playground for children.
Robert Vallina, Director of Community Planning and Development commented on the funding, “The Township of Waterford is pleased to receive a 29th annual entitlement for community development,” said Vallina. “These programs have been successful in achieving the goals of the township.”
